Hoyer is a “Winner” and should be Speaker
The Boys over at Politicker totally missed the Herculean effort of Steny Hoyer in the passage of the bailout provision. He did well to get this bill through Congress in one week having been saddled with Nancy Pelosi’s un-Speaker-like partisan prattle while attempting to reach consensus with the Liberal and Blue Dog holdouts on his home team and Club for Growth Republicans across the aisle trying to maintain some shred of dignity.
The Leader wanted this bailout plan to pass with a clear majority, which he got in the end with a 263-171 vote, 60 percent of the House and a number of Republican crossovers. This legislative feat once again demonstrates why the Democratic Caucus should elect the Leader as the Speaker when the new Congress convenes in January (hopefully with an additional member in the form of Frank Kratovil from MD-1).
Hoyer is a Big Winner this week.
