Here's some interesting video of former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele talking to the Missouri delegation at the Republican National Convention in which he talks about the need for someone of
Steele refers to how both the Democrats and the Republicans were running "historic" candidates even before the selection of Sarah Palin.
"If you think about it John McCain represents a generation of men and women in service who as I just noted, committed a great deal.... When he becomes President of the United States, he will be the first of his generation to hold that office."
McCain, born in 1936, perhaps fits best in the 'Silent Generation,' who were typically born between 1923 to 1933. This is the generation that came of age around 1950, fighting the Korean War instead of World War II, though McCain turned 18 the summer of 1954, a year after the armstice was signed. President George H.W. Bush was a part of the 'Greatest Generation' while Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are considered 'Baby Boomers.'
To Steele, McCain becoming president "says that America cannot only heal itself, but lift itself up and move forward." By going back to the generation it skipped?
Don't think that'll make the keynote speech.
