The Club For Growth plays the race card on Michael Steele

So, the Club For Growth is peeved that "the party's most steadfast elected economic conservatives" will not have prominent speaking roles at the Republican National Committee Convention in two weeks. No surprise there -- the Club is always goading their party in one way or the other.

"With the Republican Party’s brand in shambles, it is important for the Party to showcase those leaders who are currently in office fighting to preserve the limited-government, free-market principles the GOP used to stand for," the release said.

But they probably should have stopped themselves there.

Because their spokesperson went on to tell the Washington Post that GOPAC chairman and former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and others were given his prime-time spot to fill a quota. Steele, a prominent 2006 U.S. Senate candidate, and Linda Lingle, the Governor of Hawaii, were branded 'unknowns' who will be there "to look diverse and all that good P.R. stuff," quoth a spokesperson.

Which kind of calls attention to the fact that their speakers wish-list is entirely made up of white men.
