Fellow Marylander Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Towson) was the other top contender, but alas, The Hill reports that even Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's support was not enough to put him over Speaker Nancy Pelosi's home-state choice.
Sarbanes will continue to hold his seats on the Education and Labor, Natural Resources, and Oversight and Government Reform committees.
