Remember how Chris Van Hollen said the best defense in a post-landslide cycle is an early, tenacious offense?
Yeah, he really meant it.
Yesterday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee took another swing at what was the Chair's Fox News Sunday parting shot on the National Republican Campaign Committee's Tom Cole. Van Hollen had asked him to join in denouncing independent expenditure group's participation in contested races. The interview was over and Cole had no time to respond.
So Van Hollen gave him a week. When they didn't hear back by yesterday morning, they put out a press release titled, "8 Days & Counting." Cole hit back fast, telling The Hill this was a "political stunt" and "flimsy words."
But the DCCC just hit back, calling Cole "a champion of the status quo in Washington."
And that, folks, is how you start the week off on offense.
