Johnson praises Clinton at a Feb. 10 rally, while O'Malley and Brown look on: Politicker PhotoPrince George's County Exec. Jack Johnson is in The Washington Post this morning, explaining his switch back to Barack Obama from Hillary Clinton.
Johnson allowed his name to be used in a release of public officials backing the Illinois Senator late last year, then switched to the New York Senator at the behest of her husband, the former President.
Clinton's not yet out of the race, but now he's calling conscience.
"I cannot in good conscience go to the convention and not support Barack," he is quoted, though he does not have such freedom as he is a pledged Clinton delegate to Denver Democratic National Committee Convention -- a representative she is entitled to in her 36% showing in the state primary. The Democratic presidential primary has not gotten so crazy that pledged delegates are up for grabs yet.
This is yet another high-profile example of Johnson bucking allegiances for political expediency. In January, he was spotted at a fundraiser for Donna Edwards, who was looking to unseat his ally, Rep. Al Wynn. Earlier, he allowed photographs at a golf outing with Gov. Bob Ehrlich a few months before the 2006 elections.
