Conservative GOP activist and blogger Brian Griffiths has thrown his hat in the ring of those seeking to become the executive director of the Maryland Republican Party.
Griffiths has his ear to the rail on most important issues concerning the state GOP, and is more importantly a political junkie who would eat, sleep and breath his job.
Going against him is that he is too contrarian to political conformity, as well as too quick to lash out at his opponents, even going negative in his race for Anne Arundel Central Committee.
But isn't an attack dog what the state GOP needs, especially after flushing their opportunity to seize upon special session tax increases by connecting with the public at a gut-level rather than a legalese lawsuit?
And besides, everyone has enemies in politics. What makes Griffiths' any different?
Well, one could be a bit of a problem: he was the public conduit for those floating the idea that Chairman James Pelura would be turned out last November, possibly to be replaced by former House Minority Leader Al Redmer.
True, that did not please Pelura, but he could look at this as an opportunity to quash a potential adversary and to try someone who is not a part of the Annapolis politics-as-usual.
Even Griffiths himself acknowledges he is unlikely to be picked for the job. The head-turning nature of the improbable pick would be part of the appeal in shaking up Annapolis.
