On his schedule since last week, Gov. Martin O’Malley will testify before the House Financial Services committee on Capitol Hill tomorrow to discuss the foreclosure prevention bill he recently signed into law.
Chairman Barney Frank invited O’Malley to appear alongside several of his former colleagues from the U.S. Conference of Mayors: Tom Menino of Boston, Oscar Goodman of Las Vegas, and Adrian Fenty of Washington D.C.
The committee is currently fine-tuning its own legislation to grant the Federal Housing Authority the ability to insure refinanced mortgages that have been significantly written down by mortgage holders and lenders.
Speaking of which, the person supposed to oversee all of this – the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson – is set relinquish his office next week. Still no word on the President’s appointment, or if there will be one at all as the time for action may be past, but still, we’ve got our fingers crossed.
