But you're talking about something that the average voter probably thought Gilchrest did anyway! He should have swept it under the rug and move on, rather than trot it out on a Monday.
Because Gilchrest Is Not a Political Hack
Regardless of whether you agree with his political philosophy, no one can credibly label Gilchrest a typical pol.
Caligiuri has been around long enough to know that you put out things you want to bury on a Friday. The only logical explanation is that it went out on a Monday because Gilchrest wasn't trying to sneak something past people or allow for that appearance.
Frankly, I think it's smart politics when you're dealing with something like this. Being stupid enough to think to even try to sneak this past the press would have been the mark of a true amateur and someone who really was hiding something.
