Greenip: Keep slots and 'highway 95' out of Maryland's constitution

State Sen. Janet GreenipState Sen. Janet GreenipGRASONVILLE -- Question 2, the ballot referendum which would allow slot machines along Maryland's I-95 corridor, took center stage at the Queen Anne's County NAACP forum on Saturday.

State Sen. Janet Greenip (R-Crofton) argued against slot machines, saying they will cause addiction and won't generate nearly as much money as people expect. Carroll Hyson took the opposite position, saying the referendum will generate roughly $660 million in new education funding each year and that addiction won't be an issue.

Kratovil: Harris will do anything to win

GRASONVILLE -- Democrat Frank Kratovil told an NAACP forum that his opponent will do anything to win the 1st Congressional District race, even if it means being blatantly dishonest.

"I think we need fairness, justice, right and wrong," Kratovil said at a forum for the Queen Anne's County branch of the NAACP on Saturday. "Not folks that are willing to do anything to win elections."

Harris to NAACP: Vote with an open mind

GRASONVILLE -- Republican Andy Harris asked voters from the NAACP to approach the 1st Congressional District race with an open mind.

"On November 4th I'm gonna ask for your vote," Harris said at a forum for the Queen Anne's County branch of the NAACP on Saturday. "And it may not be a vote some of you usually pass."

Executive in the early '90sThe Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) issued a statement late Sunday expressing their "regrets at the passing of former County Executive and Councilmember Neal Potter," who died last Tuesday at the age of 93.

Potter served on the Montgomery County Council from 1970-1990, and served one-term as county executive from 1990-1994. In 1994, he returned to the council, where he served for another four years.
