Taking on Cummings, Hargadon holds fundraiser in CD-7

SAVAGE--Times have changed for Dr. Mike Hargadon (R-Woodstock).

Dr. MIke HargadonDr. MIke HargadonBack in December, the career dentist told PolitickerMD.com that he did not “intend to raise money or make a serious challenge” to Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Baltimore) in Maryland’s 7th Congressional District. Six months later, with a small campaign team behind him, Hargadon is moving forward, and held his first significant fundraiser before a crowd of a few dozen supporters Friday night in Savage.

“This is the first time we’re trying to do something on this scale,” Hargadon told PolitickerMD.com.

Asked about his previous comments, Hargadon said, “At that time I did not have a committee. I didn’t expect that I would be able to raise money.”

Rep. Cummings comforts slain man at Catonsville gas station

In a shocking daylight attempted robbery on May 10, a man was fatally stabbed at a Catonsville gas station while en route to taking his pregnant wife to the hospital to give birth.

WJZ/AP reports that Rep. Elijah Cummings pulled into the same gas station just seconds after the assailant fled, cradling the bleeding man in his arms until the ambulance arrived.

Carlos Santay-Carillo died at the hospital a few hours later, shortly before his son, Carlos, Jr., was born.

"If I had been here just 25 seconds earlier, I'm sure I would have been right where he was," Cummings told WJZ.

Maryland Democratic Delegation finalized, Glendening and Kennedy Townsend selected as add-on’s

Former Gov. Parris Glendening and former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend were selected by the state Democratic Central Committee as un-pledged add-on delegates to represent Maryland at the Democratic National Convention, this morning.

Despite their titles, Kennedy Townsend and Glendening have endorsed candidates during the primary cycle; Kennedy Townsend has been a vocal supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) for several months, while Glendening endorsed Gov. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.) last December and has not officially endorsed another candidate since Richardson ended his campaign in January. Richardson, himself, endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in March.

An additional 15 at-large delegates and another 9 delegates selected from party leaders and elected officials were selected. Of these 24 delegates, which are tied to the state's popular vote, which Obama carried in the Feb. 12 primary by 24 points, 15 are pledged Obama supporters and 9 are pledged Clinton supporters. Four additional pledged at-large alternates, three of which are Obama supporters, were also selected.
