"It's been dribbles," Gloria Moore, chief election judge at the Evangel Cathedral location in Upper Marlboro, said.

According to Moore, as of 11:00 a.m., 104 people had cast a ballot in a contest expected to be won by activist Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington).

Edwards, James prepare for voters’ choice

Residents of Maryland's 4th Congressional District will go to the polls tomorrow to elect a new member of Congress to replace former Rep. Al Wynn (D-Mitchellville), who resigned May 31. Activist Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) and high-tech developer Peter James (R-Germantown) are the nominees of their respective party's. Edwards is considered the favorite in the heavily Democratic 4th district, which encompasses portions of Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.

Despite their status as the clear frontrunner, Edwards' Communications Director Dan Weber told PolitickerMD.com today that the campaign is taking "nothing for granted."

Weber said the campaign has made a "conscious effort" to inform voters about the dangers of assumption, fearing that such a belief will lead to low turnout, and perhaps assist James.

Edwards joins anti-war activists in Washington

Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington), the presumptive future congresswoman in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District, joined anti-war activists on a march to the White House in Washington, D.C. yesterday, as protesters marked the five year anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq.

In remarks provided by her communications director, Dan Weber, Edwards called for an end to the war while addressing the crowd.

“This administration and its Congressional allies continue to follow a failed strategy, continue to reject a new approach to Iraq, and continue to openly defy the will of the American people,” Edwards said.

Edwards returns to work at Arca

Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington), the Democratic nominee in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District, has returned to her work as the executive director of the Arca Foundation since her victory in the Feb. 12 primary, according to her communications director, Dan Weber.

Given the fact that the fourth district is heavily Democratic, Edwards is expected to easily win the November general election against Peter James (R-Germantown). By the time she is sworn-in to Congress next January, nearly 11 months will have passed since her primary victory over Rep. Al Wynn (D-Mitchellville).

With that immense time lapse, Weber told PolitickerMD.com that Edwards has been “back to work,” at Arca, an equality and social justice foundation that specializes in securing grants for various causes, such as campaign finance reform and toxic waste disposal.

For Edwards, it was all about change

For Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) the 2008 Democratic primary in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District was all about one thing: change. The community activist used a similar theme in her bid to unseat incumbent Rep. Al Wynn during the 2006 primary, only to see the congressman win by a narrow 3.3 points.

This year, with change on the national horizon, Edwards spoke out against what she perceived as Wynn’s ties to corporate interests and Republican ideals, and demanded a new course. On Tuesday, the message worked. Edwards defeated Wynn in a landslide, securing 59.2% of the vote to the congressman’s 36.5%.

Wynn, Edwards battle over Iraq

The race between Rep. Albert Wynn and community activist Donna Edwards is heating up as the two prepare for a rematch of their 2006 Democratic primary contest - a contest Wynn won by a 49.7%-46.4% margin, one of the narrowest of any incumbent in the nation.

"The campaign is going great and we have momentum," said Edwards' communications director Dan Weber. "Donna offers change for the people of the fourth district."
