Steele reads into Jesse Jackson's vulgar comments about Obama

Says Obama Effectively Reversed 'The Race Card' On Clinton

Michael SteeleMichael Steele

Yesterday on the Fox News Channel, former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R) weighed in on the Rev. Jesse Jackson's vulgar, unwittingly public comments about his frustration with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

Jackson, having been miked shortly before appearing on Fox News on Wednesday, made the comments while unaware that he was being recorded.

"See, Barack's been, um, talking down to black people on this faith based. he said. 'I want to cut his [EXPLETIVE DELETED] off. Barack -- he's talking down to black people."

Jackson offered an apology for the statement when he learned that Fox News would be airing it.

Appearing opposite of the Rev. Al Sharpton on the 'Hannity and Colmes' progam, Steele said that while he feels really bad for Jackson, who he described as "a good friend," he added, " The real question is why did he think that?"

Glendening: Obama will provide ‘fundamental change’

Former Gov. Parris GlendeningFormer Gov. Parris GlendeningFormer Gov. Parris Glendening, who was selected Saturday by the state Democratic Central Committee as an unpledged ad-on delegate to the Democratic National Convention, discussed his decision to endorse Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) during an interview today with PolitickerMD.com.

“I believe Sen. Obama is the strongest candidate in November and will be a great president,” Glendening said.

Glendening, who initially supported New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, said he has been “very excited and enthusiastic” about the Obama campaign for some time, but decided to “wait until the (delegation) appointment process was over” before endorsing.

Kennedy Townsend stumps in Indiana

Sen. Hillary Clinton is playing the nostalgia card in Indiana, but in a different way than usual, as former Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is taking a prominent role in her presidential campaign. Today, she’ll join the Senator and former President Bill Clinton at four stops across the Hoosier State.

The 1968 Indiana Democratic primary was the first contest her father, Sen. Robert Kennedy, took part in, where he unexpectedly defeated favorite son Gov. Roger Branigin and Minnesota Sen. Eugene McCarthy.

Kennedy Townsend will appear with the Clintons at a festival for South Bend’s Dyngus Day, a Polish holiday that celebrates the end of Lent and a political tradition in the state. She will then continue on with the former president at “Solutions for America” rallies in Rochester, Logansport and West Lafayette.

Indiana, which some consider the last true toss-up in the Democratic race, goes to the polls on May 6.
