Today’s Politicker.com list of the America’s Top 53 Political Sex Scandals has two Maryland members, #35 Charles Boutin and #40 Bob Bauman.
Not listed is former Gov. Parris Glendening’s affair with a deputy chief of staff Jennifer Crawford. Glendening was already deep in lame duck waters when the “scandal” became officially public, he finalized his divorce and the two got married faster than Eliot Spitzer could say “resign.” It wasn’t a career-ender, as his career was already over.
Former Gov. Marvin Mandel did pretty much the same thing, though his political future was cut short by money – the other great vice of officeholders.
And don’t forget Roy Dyson, Bauman’s successor, who had a tangential sexual identity scandal in his camp, when aide Tom Pappas fatally hurled himself from a window when the Washington Post published rumors he was using the congressman’s office to cruise young men. At the subsequent press availability, Dyson himself was asked if he is gay.
Plus the latest addition: Del. Bob McKee.
