Real Clear Politics’ Tom Bevan has been floating former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele as a very real contender for the Vice Presidential nomination under Sen. John McCain.
And his readers seem to agree. When asked who they thought would make a good nominee, Steele came in a close fourth behind Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, former Rep. J.C. Watts and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Bevan is not alone in his opinion, but come on.
Steele lost to Sen. Ben Cardin by 10 points, in the same year Bob Ehrlich lost by 7.
Need more? Four years prior, Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend lost to Ehrlich by only 4 points. She even got 26,000 more votes than Steele did.
Steele did worse than Townsend-Larson – and he ran a good campaign.

VP McCain
Michael Steele or J.C. Watts would be great! Love Condoleeza Rice, yet she could be a detraction for some people because of the war. Strongly urge everyone to consider a black VP. The best, if not the ONLY, way to compete if Obama wins the Dem nomination. If Hillary wins the nomination, then black and other ethnic groups will be very disappointed and may be ready to pick a McCain/Watts or a McCain/Steele ticket.
