Tom LoBianco’s story on pay raises within the O’Malley administration over the weekend has so far failed to launch much excitement with the state press corps. Is it because they’re in the tank for the governor, or because there’s no ‘there’ there.
It certainly could be something, but LoBianco’s follow-up doesn’t seem to get much deeper.
The state Republicans put out a statement yesterday, but not the kind that showed they were pushing this as hard as they could. Martin Watcher was all over it, but try and find something he isn’t poking and prodding for an anti-O’Malley angle.
It’s curious that the best LoBianco could do for a quote in his story today was from a man on the street at the AFSCME rally on behalf of state employees’ pay. How nicely it corresponded with the narrative they’re trying to set for the week.
Which raises the question: is it the liberal AFSCME feeding the conservative Washington Times information, trying to raise the issue of O’Malley’s handling of the budget?
