Democrats voted on a large-scale basis in last Tuesday's primary in Montgomery County, with a 60% turnout.
According to statistics conducted by the Montgomery County Board of Elections, and provided by Milt Minneman, the Communications Director of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, some 162,998 Democrats went to the polls, out of 271,916 registered.
Turnout was not as high among Montgomery County Republicans, as 36% of GOP voters cast a ballot; 43,163 out of 119,741 registered.
In a statement, Minneman said the Democratic turnout was "probably larger than any previous turnout for a primary election."
State-wide statistics are still being studied by the Maryland State Board of Elections.
