Mikulski knocks Kennedy endorsement as 'nostalgia'

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a staunch advocate for Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential candidacy, discounted Sen. Ted Kennedy's endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama today, saying, "[I]t's not about who was inspirational in the past, but about who can get the job done in the future.”

In a statement released this evening, Kennedy’s colleague of more than two decades acknowledged that his "endorsement was indeed a poignant statement, and I'm sure means a lot to a lot of people.”

However, Mikulski added, “I think what the American voters are looking for is not nostalgia, but who has the vision, the direction and the know-how to get out of the very challenging problems that we face.”

Mikulski is the fourth ranking Democrat on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, which Kennedy chairs. Both Clinton and Obama sit on the committee as well.

“Our economy is fragile, our standing in the world is weak, and we need someone that has the can-do ability to lead us forward,” she said. “I believe it will be a Democratic President, and I think it is Hillary Clinton."

Barbara is Irrelevant

Why is it that every time Barbara Mikulski says something she is always on the wrong side of the fence?

It just seems to me that the votes she casts, the positions she takes and the statements she makes never jive with the way I feel or advocate. She is loosing touch with her Democratic upbringing - and thereby loosing touch with her Democratic constituency.

All I know is that change does not come from recycling the past. Every generation has their leaders. Her leadership has eclipsed us all.
