Maryland for Obama reacts to Iowa victory

The state group Maryland for Obama reacted to Sen. Barack Obama's victory in Iowa tonight.

"This is a great night," Michael Buckley, the communications director of Maryland for Obama, said during an interview with PolitickerMD.com. "It shows a great deal of enthusiasm for Barack Obama."

As of 10:20 PM (EST), with 96% of precincts reporting, Obama was the projected winner in the Iowa Democratic caucus with 38 percent of the vote, compared to 30 percent for John Edwards and 29 percent for Hillary Clinton.

Buckley said the results demonstrated "diverse support," for the senator from Illinois.

Entry polls from Iowa showed Obama as the overwhelmingly favorite among young and first-time caucus goers. Buckley said support for Obama in Maryland among young voters was also very strong.

"The youth vote will be particularly strong in Maryland for Barack Obama."

In addition, Buckley said the results would serve as "good momentum" going into New Hampshire and beyond.

He also referred to a new state law passed in Maryland, which allows 17-year-olds who will be 18 at the time of the general election to vote in the state primary. Marylanders will head to the polls on Feb. 12.

"A large number of high school seniors and college students support Obama," Buckley said.

The race will continue with the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 8.

Photos from last night's event in Brandywine

I got some photos from the Iowa Caucus Watching event last night, which was sponsored by the Prince George's Chapter of Women for Obama: http://pics.livejournal.com/uu_mom/gallery/00015148

I have a video also, but it's over 100 MB, though only ~2 mins. showing the party elated over the announcement about his win.
