Donna Edwards and son Jared greet a voter outside a polling place in Upper Marlboro: Politicker PhotoUPPER MARLBORO-- Turnout has been low this morning for the special election in Maryland's 4th Congressional District.
"It's been dribbles," Gloria Moore, chief election judge at the Evangel Cathedral location in Upper Marlboro, said.
According to Moore, as of 11:00 a.m., 104 people had cast a ballot in a contest expected to be won by activist Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington).
"Some people seem to have voter fatigue," Edwards told PolitickerMD.com, referring to several recent special elections that have occurred, particularly in Montgomery County.
"We had to give a civics lesson this morning," she added.
Dan Weber, Edwards' communications director, said the cathedral site was one of the largest in the district.
"It's a clear contrast from the primary," Edwards said of the February's Democratic primary.
Edwards did not seem concerned about the low turnout, saying, "It's to be expected."
Polls are open until 8:00 p.m.
