Senate Majority Whip Lisa Gladden (D-Baltimore) told PolitickerMD.com Thursday that she "suspected" Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller (D-Chesapeake Beach) "would seek re-election for quite a while"
"I think it was a long time coming," Gladden said of Miller's Wednesday announcement that he would run in 2010.
While acknowledging that Miller's position "is very powerful," Gladden cautioned against the idea of putting too much power in the hands of one person.
"Some folks might give him more credit than he deserves," Gladden said of Miller. "You still need 24 (senators) for a majority."
Gladden described her relationship with Miller as "friendly," adding, "I think he respects me as I respect him."
She added, "Do I always agree with him? No."
She referred to her opposition to the death penalty; Miller supports capital punishment.
