Details remain limited in Currie investigation

Details of the FBI raid on the home of state Sen. Ulysses Currie (D-District Heights) Thursday remain unclear, as authorities are allegedly investigating the senator's consulting activities with the Lanham-based supermarket Shoppers Food and Pharmacy.

Contacted at his home this afternoon, Currie told PolitickerMD.com, "My attorney has counseled me only to talk to him and not to reporters."

Asked if he could provide any additional information about his relationship with the grocer, Currie said, "No. I wish I could."

His attorney, Dale Kelberman, declined comment when contacted by PolitickerMD.com.

Yesterday, Currie told reporters that federal agents greeted him when he departed his home at 6:30 a.m. He said he was not charged with a crime and had not talked with the FBI.

Haley M. Meyer, a spokesperson for Supervalu, Shoppers parent company based in Minnesota, confirmed to reporters that Currie is an "outside consultant" for Shoppers.

Finance reports indicate that Supervalu has donated roughly $7,500 in political contributions to Currie since 2004.

The senator did not report receiving income from Shoppers between 2005 and 2007 in filings with the State Ethics Commission, which he would be required to do under state ethics law if he did in fact receive income.

A spokesperson for the ethics commission could not be reached for comment.

Currie has been a member of the Senate since 1995 and has chaired the Budget and Taxation Committee since 2002. He also served in the House of Delegates from 1987-1995.

Currie the persecuted

This is Maryland. He is Black & being investigated for criminal acts. He is Innocent and being persecuted. The FBI must be Racist. Beginning/Middle/End of story.
The only twist would be his getting a talk & spew show on WOLB following Larry Young, literally.

Currie is the "TARGET" of an FBI investigation. He wishes he could tell you he won't get much jail time, but he probably will. The big question is if he will rat on Mike Miller. Miller was investigated before, but had wisely covered his tracks. Luck doesn't keep up.
