Congressional candidate Frank KratovilSteve Meehan, deputy campaign manager for 1st congressional district candidate Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville), expressed confidence today that the campaign could financially compete with rival Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville).
Yesterday, we reported on Harris' confidence in his campaigns ability to "raise between 3 and $400,000" per financial quarter.
Comparing fundraising to "a game of golf," Meehan told PolitickerMD.com, "You have to continuously advance the ball."
Acknowledging that Harris "has been good" at raising funds, Meehan said he did not know if the campaign could draw-even with their opponent financially, but said, "We're working very hard."
He said "a number" of fundraising opportunities would be occurring in the first district and in Washington, D.C., over the next few months.
"You have a finance budget that gives you a plan to provide for a winning outreach," Meehan said of the campaign.
Asked if he was concerned by Harris' ability to raise money, Meehan said, "I don't spend a lot of time looking at what the other guy is doing."
Saying there was "no magic list" of potential donors, Meehan said, "Frank has to explain to people that he can win and is the kind of representative we need in Washington."
Describing Kratovil as "new to the political world," Meehan said the candidate was still in the process of introducing himself to the voters.
"Once people meet him and have a chance to talk to him about the issues they seem much more willing to donate," Meehan said.

I'm not commenting on
I'm not commenting on Kratovil taking money from the DCCC. I'm just merely stating from the article that it seems that he does not have a solid fundraising base other than PACs. I know Harris has hosted MANY fundraisers throughout the district. I'm not criticizing, merely commenting.
So very funny! Automatically
So very funny! Automatically assuming that I'm a liberal becuase I think a candidate shouldn't have to know who all of thier donors are.
I'm sure that Kratovil knows where the money is coming from. I'm sure that there is a list of donors to turn to when crunch time rolls around.
And as far as special interest money and PACs, I see no difference between Kratovil and Harris other than the fact that Harris major contributions are coming from PACs and places outside of Maryland. Its not illegal, and I won't say he shouldn't do it, but I fail to see any reasoning that wouldn't allow Kratovil to take money from the DCCC, or how that negativley impacts his campaign.
I love how liberals claim to
I love how liberals claim to be "tolerant", yet they won't tolerate anyone who disagrees with them... I wasn't saying a candidate should only have a few large donors, but if you listen to the statements, it sounds like they really have no idea where to go. Having worked on campaigns, there are all sorts of target audiences and individual donors to go after. I just get the impression that Frank would rather rely on special interest money from PACs than getting donors.

I'm glad you decided to be part of the conversation. You bring light to the questions at hand, while addressing the issues. Thank you for posting something thought provoking and worthwhile. The relevance of your comment is overwhelming!
Dear Arbiter
So what if you can't spell and/or type in your postings? Does that discredit your thoughts? Probably.
Shoreman would prefer the
Shoreman would prefer the candidates rely on a handful of large donors who give to a campaing over and over again. Most people I know don't shell out large sums over and over again for a candidate unless they think that there is something to gain from the involvement. This is especially true for large donors. I would prefer if the candidates had to work a little for thier money. It makes the process seem a little more genuine, a little more in touch with the common 1st District resident. If all of my hypothetical campaign money came only from a handful of sources (who I could name if that was the case) I wouldn't really be trying to win the vote of the comon person would I? I would be in the pockets of those large donors who would MAKE SURE I remembered them when I was in office.
So what if a candidate has to go hump for his money? When did that become a bad thing?
So Kratovil has no idea who
So Kratovil has no idea who his donors are, who to approach, or really a solid base. He's hoping on DCCC funds and other traditional DEM pacs...and the golf analogy? That was just lame.
