Lynn Caligiuri, a longtime aide to Rep. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Kennedyville) has been hired by the congressional campaign of Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) to assist in fundraising matters, according to Erik Gulbrandsen, the campaign’s communications director.
“She will be helping us to go after some of the Republican money and some of the national money,” Gulbrandsen told PolitickerMD.com.
Gilchrest lost his bid for re-nomination to Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) in February’s Republican primary in Maryland’s First Congressional District.
Kratovil, the Democratic nominee, has been courting Gilchrest supporters; both men are political moderates.
Tony Caligiuri, Lynn’s husband and Gilchrest’s chief of staff, has already pledged his support to Kratovil. Gilchrest has not endorsed a candidate.
Chris Meekins, Harris’ campaign manager, could not be reached for immediate comment.
Both U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin say they are open to the idea of becoming vice president. >

Harris and his staff of
Harris and his staff of immature sycophants are blind to the fact that they are without any real momentum. His campaign manager, Meekins, called Caligiri bi-polar and Harris did nothing to reign him in. His other staffer, Swartz, is a real hothead. Their arrogance and absolute disdain for any Republican who did not support them before the primary will be their downfall. There are dozens of elected officials who supported Gilchrest, including both GOP county executives. Bridges have been burned, even if appearances are being kept up. There may not be a whole lot of Republicans.
Ah, the sour grapes taste
Ah, the sour grapes taste sweet, especially if one is a 1st District Democrat. Harris may have raised more since the primary, but on average he spent more per day than he raised, not unusual for a modern-era Republican. So far the only difference between Harris and the rest of the Republicans is that he has not borrowed from China to go deeper in debt to fight his war with Gilchrist and Pipkin.
The reason Republicans are turning to Kratovil is his message of moderation, his support for the environment, his ability to work on both sides of the aisle (not one of Andy's strong points now, is it?).
In fact, Americans are getting sick and tired of their politicians in Washington running up the down escalator while American kids are dying in Iraq, the veterans who have come home are not receiving the medical and mental health care they so desperately need and deserve, mortgage payments are not being met, gas prices are crushing middle income and lower income families, and food prices are rising weekly.
Andy Harris' answer to all of that? "We have to cut taxes."
Gimme a freakin' break. The more 1st District voters learn about Andy Harris, the better it will be for Frank Kratovil.
So go chew on those sour grapes.
And MORE bad news for Harris...
DCCC has the resources and the NRCC does not. Kratovil's cash-on-hand equal's Harris's cash-on-hand. CQ changes the race rating as Kratovil's chances improve. Now yet ANOTHER Republican joining the Kratovil camp. I don't think this campaign is going as Harris expected...
Sour Grapes Caligiuri
Kratovil, the Democratic nominee, has been courting Gilchrest supporters...
...and so far all he's come up with is a couple of sour-grapes opportunists.
