Hudson Urges Immediate Action By Congress On Energy Crisis

SILVER SPRING, MD - Dr. Steve Hudson urges immediate Congressional action concerning energy markets and the impact of recent national weather events.

For the past few months, Americans have been struggling with unrealistic, out of control increases in the prices of Gasoline, Diesel, and other forms of energy.  Both parties in both Houses of Congress have been content to sit by, point fingers, and try to create partisan blame that can be used as a tool in the upcoming elections. This dereliction of duty is being compounded by the worst flooding that this nation's farm-belt has ever seen.  This weather catastrophe threatens to aggravate already critical food shortages, bankrupt farmers and, due to the unforeseen destruction of the feed-stocks needed for Government mandated ethanol production, irreparably cripple our economy.

Hudson calls on Congress to take immediate action by:

  • Temporarily suspending unnecessary fuel blending.
  • Ending the "Corn Ethanol" mandate, admit the mistake, cut the losses, create a "real" policy.
  • Creating a package to aid small farmers that suspends or supplements their futures obligations.

- American farmers suffering from flood damage should not be forced to purchase grain that they did not grow with money out of their pockets in order to fulfill mandated futures contracts.

  • Enacting a real energy plan that does not allow for government to dilute funding through waste, inaction, and political cronyism.  We need all forms of energy...NOW!

-The only way that this can happen is with real market funding.  Congress must set a sunset time line on "Capital Gains Tax Free Alternative Energy Investment" for private investors and funds who buy into viable, deliverable, alternative energy companies. The technologies are currently available.  They should all be allowed to grow on their own and thus let regional resources and market forces weed out the best.

  • Having government take steps to reduce its own energy use through conservation.

-Government should control its own consumption before reaching out to the pockets and    thermostats of the people who pay their salaries

The Hudson Campaign will be releasing a more detailed energy proposal in the comings days. "I implore the members of both houses to deal with this threat to the security of our nation with a little bit more urgency than is currently being displayed."
