Hoyer praises Menendez as possible VP pick

Menendez & HoyerMenendez & HoyerThose of you who are national Politicker devotees might have saw this story last week: our New Jersey correspondent Matt Friedman caught up with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer in a campaign swing through the Garden State on Friday.

He asked the Fifth District Democrat what he thought of a major Clinton donor’s recent speculation that New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez could be the running-mate to Sen. Hillary Clinton.

“He and I were good friends from his first day in the Congress many years ago, so I’m not objective on that,” Hoyer told Friedman. “But I think he brings a lot of unique attributes to that possibility. Now whether that’s going to happen or not, I don’t know. It’s not without some degree of rationality.”

In 2004, Rep. Menendez – then serving with Hoyer in leadership as House Democratic Caucus Chairman – was considered a vice presidential contender.
