Harris internals were more or less on target

It appears the late-deciders went for state Sen. Andy Harris over Rep. Wayne Gilchrest in the First Congressional District. That's par for the course, with the undecided breaking for the challenger.

A poll conducted by Harris' campaign late in January showed him trailing Gilchrest 35% to 33%, while state Sen. E.J. Pipkin floundered around 16% to 14%.

Harris’ camp was surprised when they attracted such a famed Republican pollster, Arthur J. Finkelstein, who worked for Presidents Nixon and Reagan and successfully surveyed Al D’Amato’s 1980 primary win over New York institution Sen. Jacob Javits.

Finkelstein is perhaps just as famous for being an openly gay conservative operative, having married his partner of more than 40 years in Massachusetts in 2005.
