Dr. Mike Hargadon Challenges Elijah Cummings to Debates

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. Mike Hargadon confirmed today that his campaign has been in contact with Elijah Cummings’ campaign office to discuss a series of debates this fall.  “There hasn’t been a serious challenger to Cummings since he took office in 1996.  This year is different.  I aim to give the voters of the Seventh District a real alternative to Congressman Cummings,” said Dr. Hargadon.  “And we are going to do everything in our power to make sure the Congressman comes out to debate.”

Dr. Hargadon explained that his campaign made the outreach, and he wasn’t sure when to expect a response.  “The Congressman seems a little busy this week,” said Dr. Hargadon, referring to Cummings’ appearance at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, “but I look forward to hearing from him when he returns.  As the Congressman is quick to point out, this is the year that everyone is touting ‘change,’ and I agree with him.  He’s been in Congress for 12 years.  He’s representative of a Congress that has a nine percent approval rating.  A vote for Cummings is a vote for the status quo.  He votes to fund the war in Iraq.  I would not because that war is unconstitutional.  He votes to bail out corporations with taxpayer money, while receiving large campaign donations from those corporations.  I do not take corporate interest money.  With Elijah Cummings, you get politics as usual.  I am the candidate for change in this race, and I plan on demonstrating that in our debates.”
