Last night, 1st District Democratic nominee Frank Kratovil released the second television ad of his campaign, again projecting the image of an independent Eastern Shore prosecutor.
"As an Eastern Shore prosecutor, its my job to stand up for those who work hard and play by the rules," Kratovil says while standing in front of the Queen Anne's County courthouse. "But in Washington, no one seems to be standing up for us anymore."
Kratovil was first elected the State's Attorney from Queen Anne's County in 2002, when the Republicans took the governor's office for the first time in 36 years. He began in that office in 1997 as Assistant State's Attorney, after having spent three years in a similar role in Prince George's County. He won re-election in 2006.
In the spot, titled "Stand Up," Kratovil makes his agenda clear: "In Congress, I'll fight to end our dependence on foreign oil, cut taxes and wasteful spending, crack down on illegal immigration, and protect the Bay."
The ad will go into rotation in place of Kratovil's first ad on Salisbury broadcast TV, as well as expanding to district-wide cable channels.

From the Baltimore Sun editorial entitled, "How the Wind Blows," a criticism on Andy Harris's two-faced approach to politics. Certainly more incisive criticism than your attack on Frank Kratovil.
"No matter one's position on wind power, it's difficult not to get blown away by the audacity of 1st District congressional candidate Andy Harris' latest TV ad promoting his national energy plan. His newfound affection for conservation and alternative energy sources, including "wind, solar and biofuel," is in stark contrast to his voting record in Annapolis.
The Republican state senator voted against several alternative energy bills during the last session, including Gov. Martin O'Malley's proposal to require utilities to buy a greater percentage of power from renewable sources. He opposed creating a state fund to invest in conservation and alternative energy projects (one that, incidentally, is not costing taxpayers any additional money) and was against a bill to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions (which would have the effect of promoting less-polluting alternatives).
Mr. Harris' record in previous years is equally poor. In 2004, he was one of only three senators voting in opposition to a solar energy grant program.
...in the ad, candidate Harris suggests that energy requires the "miracles" modern medicine has accomplished. That may be true, but it would be equally miraculous for one of the State House's most intractable leaders to change his stripes."

words haunt: back at you!
Words Haunt,
Please dont misquote, you left out the most important part of Frank's statement.
Frank said: "It's wrong to talk with a straight face about tax cuts. It's irresponsible to pile up budget deficits and national debt: We can't have it both ways"
As the Wind Blows
Kratovil changes positions as the political winds change.
Kratovil said in March, "It's wrong to talk with a straight face about tax cuts. It's Irresponsible." Source: The Star Democrat.
Now Kratovil is saying he supports "Cutting Taxes"
Kratovil is just another typical politician.
No, Anon...
No, Anon, Jack is merely recognizing the reality of what happens if Frank Kratovil were to become a Freshman Democrat in a Democrat-controlled Congress. Not just a Freshman Democrat, but a Freshman Democrat in the delegation of the Majority Leader and the head of the D-Triple-C. Not just in their delegation, but having had their generous support during the election.
Consider Heath Shuler, Anon. A Freshman Democrat, not in Steny Hoyer's delegation, but a member of the Blue Dog Coalition (and generally-regarded as the most conservative of the Blue Dogs). Heath Shuler voted with Nancy Pelosi more than 80% of the time.
You think Hoyer, Pelosi, and Van Hollen will allow Frank Kratovil to vote, especially on substantive issues, any less than Heath Shuler?
This isn't fear mongering. It's political reality. This isn't to suggest that Frank Kratovil isn't a good, decent guy. It's simply that party politics, party unity, are fairly straightforward, and that no matter how independent he might want to be or might want to portray himself, he can't be a Democrat Wayne Gilchrest.
Jack understands this. And with the exception of a handful of misinformed people, the Republicans of the Eastern Shore understand this as well.
Spending
Jack,
Do you hope that if you keep parroting the Andy Harris talking point about Kratovil and spending it will eventually become true?
Kratovil always talks about being fiscally conservative and rails against wasteful spending. As our representative in congress he would work to reduce taxes by reducing spending.
Cut taxes and spending??
Cut taxes and spending?? What a joke...how can he be Martin O'Malley's ally in Washington while cutting spending? It's impossible.
