The campaign of First District Republican Andy Harris reports it finished the first quarter of 2008 in good financial standing, outraising his Democratic opponent Frank Kratovil by a margin of more than 2 to 1. Meanwhile, the two candidates find themselves practically even in cash on hand some seven months before the general election.
In the just under 10 weeks of the Federal Election Commission’s first financial quarter ending March 31, Harris took in $401,168.22, finishing with $204,325.84 cash on hand.
Kratovil raised $189,713.87 according to FEC reports filed on Saturday, ending the quarter with $214,563.56 cash on hand.
But as Kratovil only spent $90,000 in the last weeks before the Feb. 12 primary, Harris burned through $570,000 at the end of his campaign to knock off nine-term incumbent Rep. Wayne Gilchrest and the million-dollar campaign of state Sen. E.J. Pipkin.
In a statement, Harris said, "I have been humbled by the overwhelming financial support from the many individuals who agree with my vision of lowering taxes and decreasing government spending to stimulate the economy."
The Kratovil campaign could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hmmmm
I see Sloopy Meekins comes around these parts too. Make no mistake, a lot of conservatives such as myself support Frank Kratovil. Harris falsely assumes people will vote for him because of his party affiliation. In the end, Harris will need all that money and more.
Hey Krato'malley gang, you
Hey Krato'malley gang, you might want to check his "amended" report. It shows a lot about the candidate when his campaign can't even file his finance report properly. How can you possibly make a $30,000 mistake. My guess is that he made it up to try to get the headline of equal cash on hand. This election will be about telling Martin O'Malley to stay out of our politics on the Shore. His buddy Kratovil is unwanted.
The fact that the Kratovil
The fact that the Kratovil campaign raised significantly less than Harris yet has more cash on hand says a lot about both candidate's fiscal responsibility.
Harris Needs The Cash
With the DCCC having such a large cash-on-hand advantage over the NRCC, Harris needs to raise as much money as possible. Also glad to see that Kratovil still has more cash-on-hand then Harris does. Seems Kratovil will have more then enough resources to compete with Harris this summer.
