UPDATED: DNC Delegates line up: Obama 47, Clinton 38, Unknown 14

Despite Barack Obama’s decisive electoral victory in Maryland three weeks ago, Hillary Clinton still has a chance of capturing the state’s delegation to this summer’s Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Yesterday, the state Democratic Party released the names of some of its 111-member delegation – 99 voting delegates and 12 alternates – which will lodge at the Denver Renaissance Hotel in the final week of August.

Of those directly elected, Obama came out with 27 delegates and 6 alternates while Clinton won 19 delegates and 2 alternates.

Later this spring, the state party convention will assign another 15 delegates to Obama and 9 more delegates for Clinton, based off the popular vote. These delegates will be nominated by the campaigns and subsequently elected by the party.

This means Obama holds a lead in elected delegates who will actually cast a vote at the convention, 42 to Clinton’s 28.

The popular vote on Feb. 12 was roughly 60% to 37% for Obama. The elected delegate split is 60% to 40% for Obama.

Yet, Obama lags behind Clinton in support from the state’s 27 superdelegates – elected representatives and at-large members to the DNC. Clinton is supported by 10 superdelegates, while only 5 back Obama. 12 remain undecided while another two superdelegates, yet to be named, will be chosen by the Democratic State Central Committee later this spring.

FINAL TALLY: Of 99 voting Maryland delegates, Obama has 47, Clinton has 38 and 14 are unknown.

BOTTOM LINE: Clinton could still take the majority of the state’s voting convention delegation if all but two of the undecided superdelegates break for her.

Obama will probably win

Obama will probably win everywhere. He's a breath of fresh air in this polluted politic scene we're having.

Thank you for this list...let's act on it

Thank you for this list. I have searched the web trying desperately to find these names. There's just so much out there.

The way we elect to the DNC is a bit strange and extremely complicated in situations like this but lets not loose sight that it was created as a checks and balances.

A message to superdeligates

Should there be a "smoke filled room" scenario where a candidate is nominated who did not receive a majority of elected delegates, I pledge the following.

1) I will not support or vote for that candidate.

2) I will not support or vote for any superdelegate who supported that candidate, or any elected delegate who voted against the will of the people.

3) I will not support a "Democratic" party that ignores the will of the people.

A belief that I will vote Democratic out of support for the party or Democratic principles is misguided. If I no longer believe a party stands for what I believe in, I have no reason to vote for it. Democrats who oppose democracy are no better than the Republicans.
