State Democratic Party Poll: Dougherty behind Bartlett by 6%

Congressional candidate Jennifer Dougherty (D-Frederick) says she's only 6 points behind in the polls, but Congressman Roscoe Bartlett's (R-Frederick) campaign isn't buying it.

A poll paid for by the Maryland Democratic Party and conducted by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group shows incumbent Bartlett with 45 percent, Dougherty with 39 percent, and 16 percent of those surveyed undecided about the 6th Congressional District race.

Lisa Wright, a press secretary for Bartlett, says their polling shows a "dramatically different result" than the state Democratic Party's. She says Dougherty's polling is nothing more than "wishful spin."

But Dougherty insists the poll gives her reason to be optimistic.

"People have lost confidence in Congress and in my opponent's ability to fix what is broken," Dougherty, the former Mayor of Frederick, said in a statement. "They have had enough. I am thrilled with our prospects."

Wright shot back, suggesting Dougherty broke a Frederick record when she was defeated in the Democratic primary after only one term as mayor.

"The voters who know her the best like her the least," Wright told PolitickerMD.com.

Wright did agree that people have lost confidence in Congress.

"Under the Democratic leadership of the House and Senate, public confidence in the Congress has sunk," Wright said.

JokePolling, Even Harris

JokePolling,

Even Harris admits his internal polls are "within the margin of error". Granted, he refuses to divulge the exact numbers.

Slight improvement

She should do better than the last couple of stiffs. 42% sounds about right.

If the Libetarian gets a point or so, that would leave Roscoe with his lowest percentage since '96.

Polls

I would like to see Bartlett release his polling numbers.

Not shocking

Appalachia was probably hit hard by the financial crisis. Its natural for them to distrust the party that got them into this mess.

Don't be dense

The point I was making was that if that polling firm produces a poll that shows Dougherty within 6% has no credibility. Dougherty has had Zero money and zero name recognition so there is no way she is anywhere near that close. Bartlett will win by 20points and everyone knows that.

Because this poll is so ridiculous, it draws into question every other poll they have done - ie Frank Kratovil's recent poll showing him winning. Kratovil is going to just lose just like Dougherty.

what?!?!?!?

JokePolling did you read the blog post or are your illiterate?

The poll is about Jennifer Dougherty in Congressional District 6, not Frank Kratovil in Congressional District 1.

There goes Kratovil's polls validity

This poll does one thing, it shows Frank Kratovil's poll showing he is ahead is completely inaccurate. Next thing you know they will release a poll saying Martin O'Malley's approval rating is at an all-time high.
