The Democrats have assailed former Senator Phil GRAMM (Not Newt) for leading the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999. But repeal of that outdated regulatory relic from the 1930s, which sought to separate commercial banking from investment banking, has played no role in this financial crisis. Even Clinton's Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has said as much. Indeed, exactly to the contrary, repeal of Glass-Steagall has been a major factor helping to counter the crisis. It is precisely that repeal that allowed Bank of America to buy out Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan to buy out Bear Stearns, and Barclays Bank to work on buying up the remains of Lehman Brothers. This silly charge is just old, Soviet style propaganda, completely divorced from reality, calculated to mislead the gullible.

You are remarkably ill informed. Let me explain the realities of policy with respect to why we are where we are. In 1994 the republicans took control of congress, Newt Gingrich became speaker and led the fight to get the Glass Steagle Act pulled off the books and even convinced President Clinton it was a good idea cause he signed it. Do you know what that Act did? I’d guess not so I’ll tell you… It regulated banking and once removed all of the oversight power the government had to prevent ummm I don’t know A MORTGAGE CRISIS went out the window. This was republican policy, in addition the republicans controlled every aspect of the legislative process from 2000 to 2006 which accelerated the process through more voodoo economic policy(Nothing's trickled to me). The Democrats have been in control for months not years, with a republican president to boot so what were you expecting. I have a feeling you will never be pleased with any argument you here other than your own. Try doing research and thinking for yourself before formulating some ignorant, glib and contrive post. Your team should demote you to the minors.

The recently elected "so-called" blue dog Democrats in Congress have voted along party lines more than 90%. If Frank wins the election he will be a freshman congressman and will march in lock step with his party leaders. Yes, Madame Pelosi. Can I carry your bags Mr. Hoyer. Oh, Mr. Van Hollen, I want to be just like you. Mr. Owe'Malley I will help you tax Marylanders even more to help you control the citizens. How would we know if Harris's policies are extreme, a republican can't get anything passed in the General Assembly to make a comparison. Yes, Marylanders want CHANGE because that's all we're allowed to keep in this Peoples Republic of Maryland!

MD 1st Congressional District race
Moderate Republicans and independent voters in the district are joining Democrats in supporting Frank Kratovil because of his record and positions and also because of the extreme views and very poor record in the state legislature of Andy Harris. Harris has repeatedly voted against measures to protect the Bay, support education, and improve health care for Marylanders while supporting utility deregulation which has led to huge rate increases for Marylanders.
