ST. PAUL, Minn. - Succeeding in this election cycle will be an uphill battle for Republicans in Prince George's County, according to Mykel Harris, chair of the Prince George's County Republican Central Committee.
"It's a tough year for Republicans - even tougher in Prince George's County," Harris told PolitickerMD.com. "In the past I would have to say it hasn't been competitive. We're outnumbered 6 to 1. That is the biggest challenge and as a result we don't really have a farm team."
State Del. Joseph Vallario, Jr. (D) has held seat 27A since 1975 and U.S. Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington) is expected to easily win reelection in November against Republican Peter James.
Harris says recruits are "typically unknown" because Prince George's Republicans start out at a disadvantage. "This is where you're last in the league," he said.
However, Harris was optimistic that Republicans running for national office could do well at home. He said U.S. Sen. John McCain's ability to bring "real change, real solutions" would appeal to independents.
"Our base is gonna be charged up and ready to go for McCain," said Harris.

They have no team, they have
They have no team, they have no farm. Yet the GOP is full of fertilizer.
No, the PG GOP lacks ANY team at all
Last election:
Jack Johnson elected county executive with NO Republican opposition.
On my ballot: NO Republican candidates for MD Senate, Delegate, or PG Council (or any other local office).
Recent new about Jack Johnson and shady deals with land developers: NO Republican comment in the press.
Recent news about continuing police brutality under the Democrats in PG County: NO Republican comment in the press.
Go to http://www.pggop.com/Home/HomePage.htm, search the web site. Tell me if YOU can find ANYTHING about what the PG GOP has to say on the state of Democratic mismanagement of PG County. I certainly can't find anything.
