Kelly on Kelley: ‘I would listen and I would respond’

DENVER - Democratic State Central Committee member Pat Kelly (D-Baltimore County) says she’s ready to primary her unresponsive opponent.

“I’m campaigning but I haven’t started fundraising yet,” she told PolitickerMD.com at the Renaissance Denver Hotel.

Pat Kelly ran a six week campaign against state Sen. Delores Kelley (D-Baltimore County) in the 2006 primaries, but lost with 31 percent of the vote. Delores Kelley, who received 63 percent of vote, currently holds the 10th State Legislative District seat.

Pat Kelly says she is ready to run against the incumbent again and not just because of the issues at large -- she finds her opponent unresponsive to the community.

“She’s never returned or responded to anyone who reached out to her for whatever reason... She never responds, never has,” said Pat Kelly. “And I began to find out that there are a lot of other citizens in my community that would experience the same thing.”

She continued, “Would I make a better senator? I’d make just as good of a senator. Probably even better because I would listen and I would respond.”

Senator Kelley does Respond

Last month I was dealing with a refund issue between myself and a state school. I reached out to Senator Kelley who immediately responded and within weeks had fought a hard battle with the school only to receive a favorable accomodation on my behalf. I don't know who she asked in her community but she definietly didn't ask me because Senator Kelley and her staff were very helpful to me in my situation. When the school was treating me like an ordinary person, she was my voice and a strong one it was.
