Democrat Frank Kratovil says Barack Obama’s choice of U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) as a running mate won’t have much of an effect on the 1st Congressional District race, but the opposition begs to differ.
Kratovil campaign manager Tim McCann praised Biden, but he said, “This race is likely to be decided more on local issues, like Andy Harris's terrible record...”
The Harris campaign disagrees. They say the pick highlights the fact that the Democratic Party is abandoning moderate and conservative Democrats in the 1st District.
“Liberals in the first district have Obama, Biden, and Kratovil; for those who are not liberals, the choice is McCain and Andy Harris,” wrote Harris campaign manager Chris Meekins in an email to PolitickerMD.com. “Andy is proud to support John McCain and looks forward to getting him elected president.”
McCann said having a neighbor on the ticket -- the Salisbury media market includes portions of Biden's home state of Delaware -- might help, but he said it would not have a serious impact on the campaign.
“To the extent it’s going to have an impact, its gonna help,” McCann told PolitickerMD.com. The Harris campaign felt it would have no impact at all.
State's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) and state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) are currently competing for Maryland's 1st Congressional District seat. The 1st District includes 12 of the 23 counties in the state, which encompasses all of the Eastern Shore and portions of Harford, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.
The Kratovil-Harris race is ranked the 51st most competitive Congressional race in the nation on Politicker.com's the Pindell Report. Politicker.com Managing Editor James Pindell lists the the race as 'leans Republican.'

How can Kratovil say he will
How can Kratovil say he will be O'Malley's ally in Washington,DC and not be considered a liberal? What is O'Malley a conservative Democrat in disguise? Who cares what Chris thinks. The reality is Kratovil IS LIBERAL. There is no beating around the bush on it. He comes from a liberal political family/machine in Prince George's County where his dad was buddies with the PG Democrat establishment--not known for their rabid conservatism.
Chrissy cant help himself
Atleast this time Chris Meekins acknowledges that moderate and conservative democrats do exist, even though he cant resist calling Frank a liberal. I guess Chris thinks if he repeats the lie enough it will become true. Kind of like Andys commercial where he lies that he supports alternative energy. The truth is always found in the voting record.
