Rep. Roscoe Bartlett
U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-Frederick) released a new radio ad calling for “environmentally responsible offshore drilling.”
"We American's are a proud independent people," said Bartlett in the radio spot. "But now we must free ourselves from foreign oil. And we know we can through an aggressive energy plan that provides for environmentally responsible offshore drilling and investments in new technologies and alternative energies. We can free ourselves, but the Democrat lead Congress is standing in our way."
Bartlett’s Democratic opponent, former Frederick Mayor Jennifer Dougherty, says Bartlett "doesn't have a good energy plan."
"I think the ship has sailed on us believing that Roscoe Bartlett has an energy policy," said Dougherty in an interview with PolitickerMD.com. "It seems so scattershot what he's talking about."
The ad ran three days last week on WFMD 930 AM and was produced by Bartlett's campaign. Bartlett is currently running against Dougherty in Maryland's 6th Congressional District. Bartlett has held the seat since 1992.

too old
I used to be from his district and bartlett is too old and needs to be replaced. He has no idea what he is doing anymore, he needs to retire. What does he care about the future he's gonna be dead. Matt's comment's are right. dumb dumb idea.
Explain this Math
So we're going to become energy independent by drilling domestically, because we consume 25% of the world's oil, and have 3% of it's oil reserves. Oil that would take at best 7 years to even start drawing from the ground? And 15 years to have production at maximum capacity of 1 million barrels a day, when global consumption daily is currently 85 million barrels. 1/85=??...small number, negligible affect on the price of gas. Our own Energy Dept. says this would affect the price of gas by a few cents. Oh by the way, 80% of the available oil reserves offshore are already available for drilling....the companies just aren't touching them.
Why would anyone vote for such a stupid idea?
