MDGOP hits back on energy, cites O'Malley's 'broken promise'

The Maryland Republican Party is denouncing statements made last week by Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-Baltimore) after O'Malley appeared at the Democratic National Committee headquarters for the launch of the "Exxon-McCain 08 Presidential campaign."

"He's voted time and again against raising fuel efficiency standards," said O'Malley at the DNC HQ in Washington, D.C. "He's voted against renewable fuels and green jobs. He's made an Exxon lobbyist his Senate Chief of Staff, and he has 33 oil industry lobbyists as campaign advisors and fundraises. I guess Big Oil has gotten quite a return on their $2 million investment in John McCain."

The MDGOP shot back by calling O'Malley's energy policies into question.

"I have a hard time understanding where O'Malley gets the nerve to attack John McCain on energy policy," said MDGOP Chair Jim Pelura in a statement.

"Electricity rates have risen exponentially during O'Malley's governorship, despite his campaign promise to 'take on BGE and stop the rate hikes'. This broken promise is just one of many examples of the failed leadership that Marylanders have grown accustomed to under O'Malley," said Pelura in reference to a 2006 O'Malley campaign ad.

The O'Malley offices responded by criticizing former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R-Baltimore) and President Bush.

"Try as they might, the Maryland GOP can't rewrite the history of Bob Ehrlich's failed public service commission," said O'Malley spokesperson Shaun Adamec said in a statement. "In Maryland, Governor O'Malley has established polices that will help secure our energy future, but it will take real leadership and real solutions at the federal level - something that has been severely lacking during the seven years of the Bush Administration."

O'Malley's BGE Lies

Hey East Baltimore Co 4 Life. I am glad to hear that you have conceded in your error for voting for this asshole, but wish you would have looked at all of what happened with the BGE price caps. They were put in place by a Democrat in 1999. And were suppose to bring in competion to the state. But alot like democrat plans there was no back up plan in case it failed, which it did, and then was left up to the then current administration. Erhlich had a 80%+ approval rating in the state. How was he suppose to lose?? Well, when you have 1 canidate who is honest and says there is no option we have to pay this back and the other says no I will stand up and say no to higher prices, who do you think would win? I hope that you look at all O'Malley has and hasn't accomplished and bring back Erhlich.

"...taking on BGE to stop

"...taking on BGE to stop the rate hikes" -- ha, what a crock of you know what. I am ashamed to say I voted for him because I thought he would do something about my BGE bills. I learned my lesson, and he has lost my vote. I hope Duncan or Franchot runs against him. I would even consider Erhlich...
