BALTIMORE – In advance of a visit from John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, three prominent Maryland Democrats spoke at a “McSame as Bush” press conference on Monday. U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Baltimore), U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Baltimore) and Maryland Attorney Gen. Doug Ganlser (D-Montgomery County) stood with members of the 1199SEIU and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
McCain (R-Ariz.) is set to attend a fundraiser in Baltimore tomorrow.
Cardin, who spoke first, asked McCain to listen to Marylander’s during his visit, and suggested McCain would only be in the state to fundraise.
“We’re here today because Senator McCain will be here tomorrow and he’s gonna have a lavish fundraiser right across the street here and we would hope that he would spend some of his time when he’s here in Maryland to listen to Marylanders,” Cardin told reporters.
Gansler, a state co-chair of the Obama campaign, took the podium after Cardin.
“Unfortunately working people in our state have borne the brunt of the last eight years of George Bush’s policies - those same policies that John McCain wants to carry on these next four years,” said Gansler. “And he has the chutzpeh to come here across the street and raise money in our city at a time when it’s become eminently clear to all of us that these last eight years certainly, for the Democratic Party is the party of fiscal responsibility here in Maryland and throughout the United States.”
Cummings, who also serves as a state co-chair for the Obama campaign, called the Arizona Senator “out of touch.”
“Marylander’s want hope. Barack Obama has talked and preached hope over, and over, and over again. But I’m beginning to wonder whether Senator McCain believes in that hope.”
McCain is scheduled to attend a finance reception Tuesday evening with former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R-Baltimore) at the Center Club in Baltimore.

Ben Cardin used to be a
Ben Cardin used to be a moderate, bridge-building Democrat. What a shame he's become a partisan hack over the years.
The three stooges have spoken
Cummings is a race baiting liberal who has done absolutely NOTHING for his constituents in this state. His office staff are rude, won't return calls, letters or emails. Gansler is an opportunist who is out of touch and Cardin has been part of the problem with our government since he's been in office. These three people think the democratic party is the party of principal and fiscal responsibility yet they all pushed for a 1.8 billion dollar tax increase on the citizens in this state at a time of economic hardship. They all should be thrown out of office in this next election.
Who's really out of touch?
I don't agree with McCain's economics, but Elijah Cummings has no business calling anyone else "out of touch."
At a hearing of the Joint Economic Committee last month, Cummings said the following: "I recently talked to some newcomers to Baltimore ... and a number of them said that they came to the city from the country because of gas prices.... I guess it's much easier to live where you work ... I mean that's quite a bit of savings. And I never thought about it from that perspective."
He NEVER thought about how gas prices are affecting us? Congressman Cummings, YOU are out of touch with your constituents.
Fortunately, your opponent, Dr. Mike Hargadon, understands the economic problems facing us. Bring the troops home - we can't afford to police the world. End ridiculous regulations that restrain small businesses and hamper competition. No more earmarks and no more taxes.

Cummings
"Marylander’s want hope" Cummings said.
No, we want a leader that can show leadership and we hope YOU RESIGN from Congress and HOPE that Yobama stays in the senate. We all wonder if he has had any friends that are not convicted criminals, terrorists or racist preachers. Obama is a danger to the national security of the nation. He will not be elected.
Cummings
He should also RESIGN from the board of Morgan since he does feel enough for them to even SHOW UP at the meetings. Ehrlich did not reappoint him because HE DID NOT SHOW UP and then the boy gov decided that it was ok to miss board meetings.
What a sad state of affairs. Just resign Cummings, IF you can't be bothered to show for your job.
Cummings
Cummings is a sorry excuse for a man much less a Congressman. He has had serious financial problems and fathered a child out of wedlock.
He does not respond to his constituents and the worst thing is he is a racist. Everything he does is race based and has no use for his white constituents.
