Harris, Kratovil campaign over crabs

CRISFIELD -- State Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) and state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville), who are competing for the MD-1 seat, were both at the J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake on Wednesday.

"It's part of the campaign. There are 110 days left, I mean, I'm having fun, meeting folks," Harris said in an interview with PolitickerMD.com.

Harris, who reported having a little over $600,000 campaign cash on hand on Tuesday, was confident about his second quarter fundraising numbers.

"We're gonna clearly have the assets we need to make sure that people get the message," he said.

Kratovil also relished the interaction with the Tawes goers.

"It's an event where you come and you see old friends and experience a little politics with very, very good food," Kratovil told PolitickerMD.com.

Kratovil, whose campaign accused the Harris campaign of overstating its fundraising strength because Harris loaned himself $100,000, called the second quarter's fundraising results "a very big shift" in the campaign.

Kratovil and Harris who butt heads over many things, both said their favorite Tawes meal was the crabs ... Harris, though, prefers his steamed.

Frank Kratovil is better on the war –> He wants to end it.

Frank Kratovil is better on Social Security –> He wants to save it and not privatize unlike his opponent Harris.

Frank Kratovil is better on Immigration –> He has a long record as a State’s Attorney fighting illegal immigration on the front lines, which is why Harris never talks about it.

Frank Kratovil is better on the environment –> He believes in renewable energy and a modern solution to the energy crisis, while Harris has the 6th worse lifetime voting record on the environment out of 188 legislators in the Maryland Legislature.

Frank Kratovil is better on Health Care –> He wants to ensure it for everyone, Harris thinks the free market will take care of that which is what free market thinkers have said for 20 years, guess it doesn’t work.

Frank Kratovil is a better man. Andy Harris showed during the Primary that he would say or do anything to get elected and that included demeaning a sitting United States Congressman, the Honorable Wayne Gilchrest, and in doing so showed his true colors of extremism and irrational thinking.

They served steamed crabs, fried clams, raw clams, steamed clams, fish sandwichs, and corn. No oysters.

State's Attorney Franky Kratovil was in the Obama/O'Malley/Democrat tent and Senator Andy Harris was in his own tent. They both seemed like amicable enough gentlemen. State's Attorney Franky Kratovil brought his family into the sweltering heat whereas Senator Andy Harris seemed to be alone. Nothing major happened.

No-shows at the Clam Bake-- Gov O'Malley, Lt. Gov Brown, Speaker Busch, President Miller, current federal office-holders.
