EASTON – Former Gov. Bob Ehrlich told a crowd of about 130 on Tuesday  that he wasn’t sure if he would seek the governorship in 2010.

Ehrlich was speaking to supporters at a fundraiser for Republican congressional candidate Andy Harris at the Easton Club Tuesday, when one attendee asked if he would be running for governor in the next election. Ehrlich responded by saying, “The honest answer is I don’t know,” but added “we will make that call at sometime over the next year.”

Ehrlich’s speech focused on money in politics. “Money buys what you need in politics,” he said.

Ehrlich explained, however, that ultimately “we do this because of ideas. We do this because we think ideas count.”

He continued: “The bottom line for all of this is winning, and if you’re not winning your ideas aren’t counting.”

Harris stayed away from discussing money in his address. The MD-1 Republican nominee devoted most of his speech to his new energy policy, which he called “Dr. Andy’s prescription for pain at the pump.”

“Our economy depends on energy,” Harris told supporters. He added that Republicans “had the winning ideas for 20 years, we’ve just been out voted in congress in Washington by the regulators and a Democrat controlled congress for years on some of these issues.”

Harris wrapped up his address by taking a shot at U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). “I’m not sure what Obama really wants to change,” he said. “I kinda think this is a great country. My parents came here as many of you know [from] communist countries after WWII. They know what the alternative is.”

Andy Harris is currently running against state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District.

Ehlich needs to just go away

Thanks, Governor Bob, for helping us lose the 1st CD. Your petty vindictiveness towards Wayne Gilchrest will cost Republicans his seat because Andy Harris is not only a kook, he has ZERO understanding of the Shore. Truth be told, either do you if you think someone from Baltimore County can represent our interests and views. If you run for anything again, you won't get 40% over here, so stick with that God-awful radio show. It'll be your only paycheck for awhile.

Bring it on

I've said it before and I'll say it again: bring it on, Bobby Haircut! If the GOP wants to pin their slim hopes of re-claiming the governorship on a guy who was the most inept, useless, partisan firebrands to ever live at Government House, good luck. I'd be happy to work against such a well-known failure.
