What is Ben Cardin doing?
We've said it before that Maryland's junior Senator really has no other choice than to endorse Sen. Barack Obama, and do it soon. But he's still equivocating.
Yesterday, he told the Post's Alec MacGillis and Anne Kornblut that he remains neutral and is disappointed in the tone of the Clinton-Obama spat.
"Some statements that were said could be worded differently.... [but] it's a competitive campaign, good for the Democratic Party and good for our country."
And the longer is stays competitive, it seems the longer Cardin will stay uncommitted.
It's fitting with his non-confrontational, institutional pol outlook. Bloggers at Daily Kos are trying to convince him to join in Sen. Chris Dodd's filibuster over the FISA bill granting amnesty to telecoms who shared information with the government.
But if leadership isn't on board, do you really think Cardin will stand up?

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday picked up the endorsement of Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Congress’s longest-serving female senator.
“As the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in my own right, I am honored to join Senator Clinton in this historic effort to break the last barrier for women in public life,” Mikulski said.
