DCCC airdrops into Maryland

WASHINGTON - The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is providing a financial lift to Frank Kratovil in Maryland's 1st Congressional District.

The committee has reserved over $1 million in airtime in the district between now and Election Day in the contest between state's attorney Kratovil and Republican state Sen. Andy Harris, according to a DCCC spokeswoman. The committee went on the air today with a $168,000 media buy.

The district, which spans the Eastern Shore area, has traditionally trended conservative, with President Bush winning 57 percent and 62 percent of the vote in 2000 and 2004, respectively. But Democrats insist that Kratovil is picking up momentum.

"Just 42 days before Election Day, momentum is clearly on Frank Kratovil's side.  This moderate district is looking for an independent voice and Andy Harris' extreme record of supporting more tax cuts for the wealthiest few while middle class families struggle is simply out of touch," said DCCC spokeswoman Carrie James. "Frank Kratovil's commitment to energy independence and reducing the cost of gasoline through both immediate and long term solutions along with his bipartisan appeal is resonating throughout the district."

Republicans, however, smirked at the DCCC buy. One Capitol Hill Republican suggested the committee was trying to make up for Kratovil's depleted cash coffers. At the end of June, Kratovil had about $450,000 in his bank account.

"No amount of cash can change the fact that Frank Kratovil is far too liberal for the voters of the First District," said Brandon Buck, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. " As much as Steny Hoyer and Chris VanHollen wish it wasn't so, we are confident that Andy Harris will be in Congress next year."

Earlier today, the committee announced plans to air advertisements in Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District, where Democratic state Sen. David Boswell is taking on Republican state Sen. Brett Guthrie.

Dr. No

Dee,
George Bush has a Harvard MBA and look at his record on the economy. It’s atrocious despite his educated background and years as a businessman before getting into politics.
Ronald Reagan was only an actor, but many people feel he was best on a whole host of issues than others with a more traditionally suited background.
Trust is earned not given. Don’t blindly give your trust to Dr. Harris on healthcare because he is a doctor and neglect to take his record into consideration. If you like his record, then great! He’s your guy, but I find it disconcerting that a man with his record in the legislature on healthcare issues still gets a pass because he’s a doctor. That doesn’t qualify him to set policy.
Andy Harris has not only NOT earned that trust, through his years in the legislature he has demonstrated why we shouldn’t trust him on these issues.

Dee, dont let the doctor fool you

Dee,

It is not about me (or Frank) attacking a doctor on healthcare, the real issue is why the doctor voted AGAINST reasonable healthcare! The Doctor voted against a woman having the privilege of choosing an ob/gyn to be her primary, instead of a general practitioner. Ask Andy what the reasoning there is? The Doctor voted against having health insurers pay for colorectal screening looking for cancer. Ask the Doctor why. Please don’t give that tired answer of it will make insurance cost too much. The State of MD recently had to file an injunction to stop BC/BS of MD from paying its CEO, who served as such for less than one year, a multi-million dollar bonus. This is why insurance is expensive.

Secondly, do you blindly believe everything your Doctor says? This is a perfect argument for a “second opinion!”

Austin - how can you attack

Austin - how can you attack a Doctor on health care issues? I trust a doctor more than a lawyer to tell me what is good for health care in this country. It was a smear ad.

Independent in Severna Park

That is amazing waste of a vote. Americans have died for the freedom to vote and you are basing yours on an ad from the DCCC in which a Doctor is being questioned on his voting record where he DENIED insurance coverage of routine, yet life-saving procedures to be covered by health insurance.

Hi everyone in the First CD

Hi everyone in the First CD. You will probably never meet me, but my name is Virginia James and I am a wealthy New Jersey ultra-conservative who donated over $500,000 to the Club For Growth this year. I don’t live in your district. I regularly drink 30 yr old wine from my cellar, eat caviar, and go sailing on the weekends. I love to drive my Range Rover from each of my 12 houses around the country. I believe that we need lower taxes on rich people like myself and less government oversight to make this country a fairer place. If you make over $500,000 a year as a CEO (regardless if you’ve run your corporation into the ground due to greed and manipulation), you should pay less taxes, receive raises, and get generous compensation packages. I think we should be drilling for energy off the coast of Ocean City, and I want to nuclear energy to rural communities. Some may call me CONSERVATIVE, but I consider myself patriotic! Government is the problem, not the solution. That is why I personally spoke to Patrick Toomey at the Club For Growth and DEMANDED the committee bankroll Andy Harris’s campaign. He told me that he would do it if I would invite some of my wealthy, conservative friends to a fundraiser at my Manhattan mansion. Well, I jumped at the chance, and raised over $1 million in one night! So, vote for Andy. He will make a great Congressman when President McSame takes the White House!

Hi everyone in the First CD.

Hi everyone in the First CD. You will probably never meet me, but my name is Winston DeRoyce, IV and I am a wealthy San Francisco liberal who donated thousands of dollars to the DCCC this year. I live in Nancy Pelosi's congressional district. I regularly drink 30 yr old wine from my cellar, eat caviar, and go sailing on the weekends. I love to drive my Range Rover from each of my 12 houses around the country. I believe that we need higher taxes and more government spending to make this country a fairer place. If you make over $125,000 a year (regardless if you own a small business and have to pay taxes twice on the S-form), you should pay more. I don't think we should be drilling for energy in the US, and I want to bring transit programs to rural communities. Some may call me LIBERAL, but I consider myself patriotic! Government is the solution, not the problem. That is why I personally spoke to Steny Hoyer and DEMANDED the committee bankroll Frank's campaign. He told me that he would do it if I would invite some of my wealthy, liberal friends to a fundraiser at my Aspen mansion. Well, I jumped at the chance, and raised over $1 million in one night! So, vote for Frank. He will make a great Congressman when President Obama takes the White House!

Poor, lonely Andy. He's

Poor, lonely Andy.

He's finding the road to DC is about as straight as Mark Foley. These itty bitty bumps are throwing him off his game.

His new internal polls are not being released for fear of scaring off the faithful, and he went hat in hand -- and foot in mouth -- to the GOP poohbahs crying for cash, only to be told there's no room at the inn for the guy who bumped off the "sure to win" Wayne Gilchrest.

The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone. Hi-ho the derry-o....

"How nice of the out-of-state, partisan Democrats to firebomb our district with commercials. Andy Harris just got this undecided vote."

Didn't the Club for Growth do the same thing FOR Harris in the primary?

Congressional Republicans are broke, financially and morally

It is because the Congressional Republicans, financially and morally, are broke.

Where o where is the republican support???

What dose it tell us about the republican national committee's faith in Andy Harris that they have not committed funds for Advertising for him?
Could it be that they see the writing on the wall?
Andy has gone begging to them for help and none has arrived.
Andy, maybe you should not have packed up your office at in Annapolis.
